The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the beginning of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future away from worry.”
This ceremony, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a local firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six-seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: happy, multicultural, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
