Arne Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's expected for doubts to be raised about his future after a further heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the club's poorest streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received plenty of support from above,” Slot commented.
“It's important to change things and secure a win obviously but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it's typical that people question you.”
He continued, “I accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “During our regular exchanges I feel the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so let’s see.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a phase of this nature with performances this poor.”
He finished, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until it is gone, we will always compete.”
“Our aim is to help the side back to the top, show everyone again the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
