Adult Swim's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Major Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the network launched a completely new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. At a time often defined by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

Network Praise

In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who found the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about observing this charming family go about their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to help comedy break out of its prevailing layer of irony. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to experience the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
