A Minimalist Statement or Just Pantonedeaf? The Color Dubbed 'Cloud Dancer' Chosen as Pantone's 2026 Colour.

Hi there! I'm so eager to find out what color is set to be 2026. Tell me everything!

Prepare yourself, since every year since 1999, Pantone chooses a signature color. This selection seeks to represent the zeitgeist—influencing everything from our emotions and fashion choices to how we design our living spaces. 2025's color was the rich tan "a creamy brown," preceded by the soft and warm "a fuzzy pastel."

The latest choice, in contrast, is somewhat unexpected. It is "a billowy white," labeled as a "ethereal and neutral white."

Laurie Pressman, vice-president of the Pantone Color Institute, remarked that it is "an essential foundational hue … allowing all colors to stand out."

Well, Cloud Dancer sounds… seriously, white? Is this a prank? Is white even a distinct hue?

Can you even describe the color of clouds? Milk? Even though people often think of white as a color, the entire spectrum is essentially a perception of light wavelengths. You can find it in a box of crayons, so for practical purposes the answer is yes.

If Pantone is being provocative is more difficult to ascertain. The company states, Cloud Dancer pairs effortlessly with other colors, avoids sensory overload, declares simplicity, and exudes refined calm.

Feedback online, however, has been less complimentary. A number of observers have accused Pantone of being completely "Pantonedeaf." Fashion and trend forecaster Mandy Lee labeled it "underwhelming." Others have likened it to subtle advocacy of controversial ideas seen in popular culture.

I see, one would hope they're cheerfully oblivious that now is a sensitive time to be pointedly celebrating the color white... So, how should I rarely near a fashion show apply this trend in everyday routine? I just painted my ceiling in white paint, does that qualify?

It absolutely counts. So would your wireless speakers, sink, or linen sheets.

It's interesting you mention catwalks, since many this season's presentations have been exceptionally bright, featuring plant-based materials on the stage.

White ensembles made appearances, as per usual, in high-fashion looks—from simple silk T-shirts to tailored gowns. Celebrities and public figures have also been spotted in monochromatic white outfits at major events.

The good news is: chances are you already have something in this "understated" chosen hue. In the words of Pressman, Cloud Dancer "embodies a eco-friendlier decision for the sustainability-minded," which might translate to avoiding the need to purchase anything new at all.

AT LAST, a fashion trend for the truly minimalist. An empty canvas, in a manner of speaking. A haven of monochromatic zen amid the clutter. Okay, I get it. Do you intend a whiteout for your wardrobe?

Definitely not. Have you ever tried to remove tomato sauce stains from a white fabric? I don't need additional cleaning headaches in 2026.

I do own a pair of once-white comfort shoes, and those never go out of style.
